Frequently asked questions

  • Naturally, one would expect our service to be in line with the prices of all other ‘eco’ and ’organic’ products and services, which are usually fairly high. Yes, the materials are more expensive, however what we learnt from our clients is that our quotes are nearly always lower than those of regular decorators. This is thanks to the pace of our labour, which helps to balance out the material cost.

  • The short answer would be — because the manufacturers’ processes are better and the products perform better too . There are dozens of ingredients and processes hidden in every eco-paint container you buy. Things we often don’t think about — water management during production, sourcing factory’s energy from renewable sources, production waste disposal, size of production, responsible sourcing of paint ingredients, replacing cheap harmful chemicals with ecologically sustainable ones, and more. All of these must be reflected in the product’s final price. Also, when buying quality paint, one gets better value for their money — generally speaking coverage of our paints is much higher than that of the mainstream ‘economical’ ones thanks to the high content of solid pigments.

  • At the moment we use products from Graphenstone, Little Greene, Victory Colours and Eartborn. All of these are 100% vegan. No testing on animals, no casein.

  • Volatile organic compounds — chemicals released as gases from many household products; paints included. They impact air quality, contribute to atmospheric pollution and can have both short - and long-term negative health impact ranging from headaches, irritation and nausea to damage to internal organs, even proven carcinogenic impact. This of course depends on the level and length of exposure in combination with the type of VOC you come to contact with. Not every type has been proven to be harmful and there are trace (virtually zero) amounts even in the best of paints. These can be branded as ‘VOC free’, since the risk of a negative health impact is non-existent. As professionals who are exposed to paint daily, we can only recommend using the most ecological paints available — especially indoors and in children’s rooms or nurseries in particular.

  • We are aware Isothiazolinone derivatives are known to cause contact dermatitis. There are, of course, other preservatives and other symptoms. For customers with allergies, we suggest to get in touch with us and we will speak with our suppliers to provide you with answers, and find a way to safely bring your project to life.

  • When we cycle we need to make sure we can get to you within reasonable time, to prevent the journey from eating into our day too much. Also, a lot of the cycling infrastructure, or the lack of, in Leeds forces us to drive. Pedal and Paint is available in all of York.

  • Yes, our suppliers can colour match. We scan your desired colour and send the result off. Of course, no two tins of paint are ever the same, however, the custom mixed paint will be very very close to the original.
